__Day One Agenda__

The 21st Century has spawned a host of digital tools that make it possible--like never before--to learn in new ways. These tools empower teachers, connecting them with colleagues and resources from around the world. These tools enable teachers to teach in new and more effective ways--to connect their students with the world and to equip them with digital skills and thinking skills necessary to thrive in the 21st Century workforce. The 21st Century Learning Community (21clc) Initiative is an effort to create small teams of teachers and administrators/instructional facilitators who will collaborate to learn what it means to teach and learn in the 21st Century. The District is currently accepting applications for new 21st Century Learning Community teams for 2010-2011. The teams will begin their collaboration this summer and will continue for a three-year cycle. As the district opens applications for more classroom laptops, teachers' participation in 21clc will be a strong component in their application.

Essential Question

How can I use digital tools to grow professionally and better understand 21st century skills and literacies?
  • What are 21st century skills, and why do they matter?
  • What does it mean to be literate in the 21st Century?
  • What is a personal learning network (PLN)?
  • How can growing a PLN make me a better educator?
  • How do I use Read/Write web tools to build and maintain a PLN?
